J - Who?

J.Crew! I couldn't even believe it, but yes, it's true. This little vintage-like number above is from the original preppy, good-but-basic, in every mall, J. Crew.
Now don't get me wrong. I frequent the Crew. Sure the delicious looking slouchy pants and perfect boyfriend jeans never fit me, but I can always find super soft tanks, yummy cashmere sweaters and the perfect beaten-up cargo jacket. But dresses? No offense to Lily Pulitzer but I don't really love dresses that have alligators or lobsters running all over them - which for some reason J. Crew will never discontinue, much to my dismay. Every summer, there they are paired with a great cardigan or zippy sweater. Why? WHY? Who knows? The point here is that they are at least branching out by creating the look above. In fact, there were several things I loved, but here are just a few:
Super comfy, but stylish. YUM.I know, I know. I hate espidrilles too. But I am slightly drawn to these.I'm not a one-piece person, but this one gets my vote.

Let Me Warn You

This may sound like an advertisement for Anthropologie, but I assure you, it's not.
But I happened to walk in there today and wanted EVERYTHING. Everything. Seriously. It was hard not to grab a whole stack of cute brightly colored tops and dresses and rush to the dressing room. And it was hard not to linger in the home accessorie department fantasizing about each piece and its place in my new home. But instead, I would pick up an item, carry it around with me, do a lap around the store, and then put it back. Sometimes this gets it out of my system - but today, it did not. So I came back home and went online so I could share with you everything that I fell in love with, and well, also to linger on them a bit more. But to my surprise, not much is on their website. So I encourage you all to go to the store and take it all in firsthand. Anthropologie really gets it. I applaud them. Their displays are irresistable, their selection of clothing - incomparable. I hope that Jac. may someday apply some section of my knowledge from being a long-time (compulsive) shopper to the intown-non-mall-shopping customer.
Anyway, here are just a few of my picks:What a stunner. This caught my eye right when I walked in. There is blue scalloped trim at the bottom and the empire top is ruched.Silky. Sweet. And great with a pair of jeans.I doubt I could pull this soft, supple bubble dress off - but I wish I could - too much bootie in the pants! The perfect floppy summer shoes.

Color Me Happy

Stressing over my paint color choices....I wish I could be brave and just go for it. I love the jewel tones, the sorbets colors, the brights...I love it all. Especially if I can wear it. Painting it on my walls seems a bit more permanent.Instead of walls I could do colorful furniture...but it's a little late for that at this point. We own a lot of chocolate colored pieces. I do better with my color in rugs, paintings and vases.Perhaps I can add it in a backsplash...I love the little tiles! And there's always bedding. I am really into quilts right now.

With A Chair-y on Top!

Was considering the Elfa system so I spent a lot of time at the Container Shop. In th process, I became obsessed with this magenta chair there:So I took a look at Moss to see if they had anything similar:And then I remembered seeing a great chair at Ikea:And my pick from Target:

Sorry I am late...

Guys, I am not going to lie. These next two weeks are going to be a bit nuts. So you may find that some days are posting-less and some are late, etc. But I will be here! Well....off and on. So please check back! Don't give up....
As for today....It's going to be random. Let's begin with this incredible table runner by Kim Seybert found at Neimans: While we are still on the neutral theme, I am loving this trapeze-style trench found at Urban. The back is equally as great. Tre´cool:Now for a shot of color, I found this image of a porch with fabulous curtains in Domino. We have something like this in our new house but it's not as colorful. We'll have to work on that. And here's another outdoor setting I love that is by Antony Todd. Maybe I could recreate this with the table runner up above!

Blah, Blah, Blah

I know I haven't really posted any fashion bits lately, and it's not just because I am furniture/decorating happy...I have been all over the web, reading all sorts of magazines and window shopping - from Marc Jacobs to Old Navy....But I have found everything very uninspiring lately other than the Milly dress above (found at Saks), and the Shoshanna dress to the right (found at Searle) - and even these are pushing it. It seems like everything looks like everything else. Even DVF's famous wrap dresses I find tiring.....YAWN.....Someone please surprise me!
Anyway, just wanted you all to know that I am NOT slacking and I am NOT going from fashion to interior design....I am just waiting for something to WOW me....

CoLOr ScHeMATicS

Well, I am stuck on hold trying to change over our utilities....what a freakin nightmare. So in the meantime, I have been staring at the Pantone Fashion Color Chart for Fall 2007. Thanks M for sending it over! I really love some of these colors and they are helping me explore some interesting options for painting our new walls....So then I began to look online for some more colorful inspiration....and I came across Wary Meyers - a team of two that have a great Bohemian sense of style - which I love! So here are just a few images of some of their design skills....I have to get back to my phone call!

Pati-Oh!

So I am eagerly awaiting my new copy of Domino, but I got a little anxious and visited their website....and found a whole report on gardens. Well, it just so happens that we have a small patio/garden area at the back of our new house and so I took a look....I hope that one day maybe our backyard will look as good as this:So of course this got me thinking.....and so the hunt for fantastic garden/patio items began!
Well, first of all, it's important to have many decorative items hidden within the leafy greens - but I have to say, I find gnomes a little creepy...how about the following instead?Striped orbs found at Pier One.

I could mix those up with this spheres at Frontgate. Moss lion from Smith & Hawken.Love this mushroom stool I found at Target.

Lanterns at Pottery Barn.

And now for a punch of color:
Pillows from Anthropologie.

I would really like to paint my own pottery with my valentine.....
Well, I am off to Miami! See you back here on Monday!

BIRD-WATCHING...

We've covered a lot of "nesting" items and inspiring "nests" these last few posts. Now let's turn to another nest-like tangent....Birds. You know how I feel about them....Well, this posting is dedicated to all things bird - inspired by a set of dishes that I fell in L-O-V-E with this weekend at a store in Decatur. I want this set for dairy. Can't you just picture it with some buttered biscuits and and scrambeled eggs??? I am just SO obsessed. And they come with these cream and sugar holders......Can it get ANY cuter? I highly doubt it.....You can also mix up the setting with these bird and nest plates. OYE, I am in heaven. Find them here at Heliotrope Home.

Well, from here I just went on a rampage - tearing through all the birdy things I had in my blog folder. I came across this luvvy....These dozen egg vases by Signals are just too much. Can you imagine the possibilities? You can do candy, you can use them for office supply holders (paper clips, stamps, etc.), or can use them as purely decorative. The fun just never ends....

Now for the bedroom - I have had my eye on these Victorian birdcage sheets for a while...You can find them at Delias. Super cute, no? And the comforter is so fun!

Delias must be on a bird kick, because they also are sporting this birdcage tank which I think is cute, but I hate the background peachy color. Bad decision on their part.

This tank actually reminds me of a comforter I once posted from Urban Outfitters. I guess it went over well because now they are selling the same print as a curtain....Hmmmm....Very similar in fact...
