Incense: Not Just For Dirty, Stinkin' Hippies Anymore

Hippies (and their modern stepchild, the Trustafarian), have long claimed incense as their unofficial smell track. Along with overwrought jam-band guitar solos, tapestries, parking lot veggie burritos and free love, incense is considered a delicacy to many of the hippy persuasion. Of course, incense has a much more meaningful history- which you can read about here- but I think you catch my drift. Incense was definitely not being burned at the viewing party for the Alabama-Georgia game last night.
In addition to our beloved collection of men's and women's clothing, gifts, accessories, shoes, baby stuff, jewelry and apothecary, Jac. is also stoked (that's the incense talking) to be carrying Paine's, the most serenely scented incense we've ever had the pleasure of smelling.
Paine's is the greatest thing to come out of Maine since lobster and Judd Nelson- stop by the shop and smell for yourself!

They Call Alabama The Crimson Tide...They Call Me Deacon Blues *

I'm a big college football fan, but I had no idea what I was getting into when I moved down South. People down here are crazy about their teams to the point of obsession. For those of you that live down here, you know what I'm talking about. You probably know who I'm talking about as well. It's interesting.

This weekend features a major border battle- the Georgia Bulldogs are taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide. UGA I vs. Bear Bryant. Newt Gingrinch vs. Richard Shelby. "Crimson" Red vs. "Georgia" Red. For die-hard fans, it's a can't miss.

Whether you're a 'Bama fan or a Dawg, make sure you watch the game in style. My pick (and I'm biased because I too bleed red- On Wisconsin!) is Relwen's Two Ply Thermal Crew. It's soft, fitted and perfect for the non-fan, the casual fan, and the super fan.

Denim Must Haves

We're doing it all this season with denim from great basics to the super sexy skinny's. The must have washes are dark denim, black and gray. So you have to know how excited I was to see the new denim from Anlo and James Jeans-Dry Aged Denim ! They're just what the fashion guru ordered.

Time-honored Humphrey by James Je
an gives the appearence of a longer, leaner leg with a higher-rise in the back so ain't nothin gonna show! Who wouldn't love that?!

Kate jean by Anlo combines the old with new. The skinny silhouette gives a look of the 50's. The modern twist comes with the polyurethane blend and button detail at the ankle. Hot, hot , hot!

The Case For Organic

The typical conversation involving organic cotton goes something like this:

Person #1: "I love that shirt you're wearing, it's so soft."
Person #2: "I know, I'm in love with it. It's made from organic cotton."
Person #1: "Oh. Cool."
Person #2: "Yeah."

Unlike organic foods, whose purpose is a bit clearer (and for more on that, go out and and get yourself a copy of The Omnivore's Dilemma), organic cotton hasn't yet received quite as much press. Often times people find out that a garment is made from organic cotton, but they're not really sure what that means. It might as well be made from "locally harvested wool", or "dynamically fused rayon". Without a clear understanding of what organic cotton is, we just toss it in to the mental "it sounds expensive" bin.

So what is organic cotton?

It's cotton grown free from pesticides, from non-genetically modified plants. This reduces the environmental impact significantly, as cotton production accounts for 16% of the world's pesticide use. And you thought that your fruit was sprayed with a lot nastiness!

Simply put, the impact of organic cotton is twofold. First, less chemicals mean less pollution, which is good for the earth and good for your karma. And secondly, it means that your piece of clothing will be free of chemicals, which will just make it feel better. All that, just from a t-shirt!

Stop by the shop and check out some of our favorite organic cotton lines including The Battilion, Stewart and Brown and Loomstate.

Peachy Keen

This just in: Jac. is featured in this month's Atlanta Peach magazine!

The cover has a picture of Julianne Hough, who apparently, is famous. I honestly had no idea who she was until I read the article. No disrespect to Julianne (who came off as a genuine, salt of the earth kinda' gal in the piece), but I chose to put a picture of Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000) in this post because he too is featured in the issue, and let's face it, is much, much cooler than Julianne Hough. And I'm not being subjective here.

If you haven't picked up your Peach, here are the highlights:

- Jac. is noted as "rapidly becoming the go-to spot for the casual chic in-town set."
- There's a great pix of Jaci (also much cooler than Julianne Hough, who by the way, seems like a really nice person).
- Albie, my favorite dog in the world, gets some ink. He comes off very favorably. The press is officially in love with him.

And there's so much more- it really wouldn't be fair for me to give it all away. Go out and get yourself a copy!

Today we got in the coolest baby gear it almost makes me want to have a baby! But for now, I will vicariously live through my best girl friends and shop for their little ones. And if you are anything like me, I have been to several baby showers this year and a few more on the way. I always show up with a Jac. baby gift in hand for the soon-to-be mom and it's always a show stopper. Jac. carries unique baby gifts that are sure to impress with cool baby style and functionality.
We now have Zebi Baby in the store. Zebi Baby was created a few years back by a mother of three who wanted to create products that expressed individuality and beauty by fusing modern and vintage style together. All of Zebi Baby products are made in the San Francisco bay area and are made from high quality and sustainable products.
One of my favorites is the baby bib with a twist, cleverly designed as a handkerchief.

Bloomers with an elastic waistband that are in a variety of fun fabrics. Buckets of Burpies come complete with 3 burby blankets.
We are getting new shipments in all the time for Fall, so stop by and check out all the new baby gear, womens and mens lines, and jewelry. I hope to see you soon!

September has arrived and Fall is making a statement this year!

Do you know what I love about today? The weather is gorgeous and the smell of Fall is in the air. What I love about Fall and being just a few weeks away is the yummy boots and cashmere tops that get to come out of my wardrobe and be rediscovered. Speaking of, we got in our newest footwear collection in this week. F-Troupe is a London based shoe brand that has been designing quintessential British footwear since 2003. We have some super sexy, strappy heels that have a purple-black patten 40's feel. As well as 3 different boot styles that will fit your every boot wearing need.
They are all reasonably priced from $166-$313.

(More boots and shoes in at the shop - must see in person!)

Also, for the men: we received the coolest bags in this week. Billy Kirk has been designing hip accessories for men for over 9 years. His bag collection incorporates materials such as leather and canvas while maintaining a basic, antique quality.
